About Us
Greenville (SC) Alumnae is a local chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated – a private, non-profit service organization committed to providing assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world. Our programs and events are based upon the organization’s Five Point Programmatic Thrust:
- Economic Development
- Educational Development
- International Awareness and Involvement
- Physical and Mental Health
- Political Awareness and Involvement
The Greenville (SC) Alumnae Chapter, formerly Gamma Lambda Sigma Chapter, became a reality when six college educated Deltas, who dedicated themselves toward the promotion of social welfare, academic excellence and cultural enrichment, applied to the Regional Director for a charter in 1947. Today, we still uphold the same principles and ideals our 22 founders envisioned through our numerous community service projects and activities, such as Delta Academy, Delta GEMS, Adopt-A-Highway, Delta Day at the State Capital, Delta Days in the Nation’s Capital and voter registration drives/education. The chapter was originally a part of the Southern Region (Bahamas, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, & Tennessee). In 1960, we became a part of the Sensational South Atlantic Region (Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina & Bermuda). The sorority places a particular emphasis on public service as we seek to accommodate and fulfill the needs of our community. Through various programs, we also promote scholarship and leadership. Collectively, the officers and members of the Greenville (SC) Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., tremendously value the extraordinary opportunity to respond to the growing needs of the community through a passionate, unified commitment to public service. We continue to carry on the legacy that our Charter Members began for our local community.
